Antique Japanese Lacquer Inro

$5,980.00

This elegant and charming Antique Japanese Lacquer Inro consists of four cases. Beautifully crafted in Urushi lacquer this Inro features a highly detailed botanic design with rich gold leaf inlay.

The high quality Ojime appears to be Carnelian. The Cherry wood netsuke is a work of art and intricately hand carved with an elliptic basket weave pattern. The cord appears to be original to the era.

The Inro is in very good condition for its two hundred plus years. It is completely intact and structurally sound with each case fitting snugly and with precision.  As a testament to its age as an important personal item which would have been used daily it shows signs of age and wear. There are minor chips to lacquer and some loss of gold leaf maki-e. The second case has an old crack to the sokoita (compartment floor) which shows to be completely stable (please see photos 10 and 11).

The approximate dimensions of Inro body are 7 cm height and 5 cm wide.  Supplied with the Kiri wood box shown in the images.
