The Abalone Divers of Enoshima is one of Utamaro’s most famous scenes of fisherwomen who dive for abalone. Originally published in 1797 all of the original woodblocks made by Nishinomiya were destroyed in an air raid around 1945. These woodblock prints are from recarved blocks from mid 20th Century. As a result woodblock prints from this genre are rare.
