This is a Finely Hand Carved and beautifully Urushi Lacquered Noh or Kyogen Theatre Character Mask of a Fukai or Old Woman. This mask appears to be from the late Meiji Era 1890s.
Masterfully crafted with gilded eyes, this Fukai Mask is carved from a single piece of Cypress wood and Hand Signed and Sealed on the verso by the Craftsman.
The condition of this Fukai Mask is excellent for its age and prior use. Showing only minor signs of storage, age and use.
