A stunning and beautifully handcrafted three case Inro from early to mid Edo era (1700s). Intricately detailed with Urushi lacquer Gold leaf inlay and Gold Maki-e. Ancient techniques of Wajima nuri and Takamaki-e raised lacquer are used to illustrate a Tiger hunting deer in a bamboo forest on one side and a flying coiled Dragon emerging from within clouds of Gold leaf on the verso. Included with this Inro is a hand carved Wooden Netsuke of three eggplants symbolizing happiness and prosperity.
The interior is finished in “Pear Skin” Nashiji-ko gold flakes. This Inro represents the very early use of these decorative techniques rarely seen in pre Meiji Era Antique objects. There is wear showing from age and use which only adds to the atmosphere of this magnificent early and rare example.
