An extremely rare set of three beautifully detailed Kugikakushi Snake decorative nail covers. Made during the early to mid Meiji era 1860’s from bronze. In very good to excellent condition. Kugikakushi are decorative ornaments and are individually hand crafted architectural features used to conceal nails in high status homes and temples as well as notable Castles of aristocratic families. The use of decorative nail covers originated during the 16th and 17th centuries.
