A rare find of an antique Obidome Kimono accessory hand crafted from a Kashira. The Obidome is a late Edo era Kashira which has been beautifully hand crafted into an Obidome. Beautifully embellished with gold flowers and leaves. The back appears to be gold plated. It is in excellent condition for an item of its age.
The Kashira is the cap at the end of the katana handle or tsuka. The literal translation of kashira is “head” because of it being positioned at the head of the samurai sword. Unlike the pommel on a European sword it is not designed as a counter-balance. On an elaborate Japanese katana the kashira can be adorned with great detail complimenting the theme of the overall sword.
