A rare find of a dramatic antique Noh Theatre doll from the Meiji era (1890s to 1900s).  Standing on a black urushi lacquer base with one leg and arm upraised in a Noh Theatre act.  He is wearing flamboyant and colourful silk robes and silk crepe pants depicting an Okina or old man.He is in very good condition for his age with minor age related marks and his height is approximately 18 cm.

With a pottery mask over his face and a silk hood and lower legs made from gofun (a mixture of ground oyster shell) he is a formidable and striking character.
