Unique Kashiki Tea Ceremony Bowl
Early Meiji era Wajima lacquer Tea Ceremony Biscuit Bowl. An integral part of the Japanese Tea Ceremony they are used to hold Wagashi sweet biscuits and other treats.
Hand carved from a single piece usually Cherry Wood and individual layers of lacquer applied over several months. The lacquering process takes months to complete. Delicate cherry blossom motifs with Mother of Pearl petals decorate the lid.
The bowl is in very good condition and ships complete with the original signed wooden box. There are only minor signs of use and wear (please see images).
The weight of bowl is 291 grams and total weight with the box 758 grams. The approximate dimensions of the bowl are 20 cm diameter and 12 cm height.
