Antique Japanese Temple Bell And Striker

An authentic Meiji era Japanese Temple Bell traditionally known as a “Mokugyo” complete with striker and hand carved from solid Cypress or Rosewood and dating from the early 1890s.

Featuring traditionally applied Urushi Lacquer with Gold highlights and hand carved from solid Cypress or Rosewood with the mythical Japanese symbol of a Dragon.

The bell also has an original leather covered wood striker.  This is an authentic antique bell showing some chipping to the lacquer work and other signs of enthusiastic use. The condition is symbolic of the age and vigorous use many times every day during its long life. A wonderful representation of authentic Japanese culture and brimming full of life.

The approximate dimensions are 20cm height and 18.5cm wide and 15cm depth
