Ueno Tadamasu Woodblock Print Oshimodoshi
Ueno Tadamasu (1904 – 1970) Tadamasu woodblock print Oshimodoshi the repeller of demons. From Tadamasu’s woodblock print series “Kabuki Juhachiban” which translates as “Eighteen Kabuki Plays”. In the dramatic “aragato” Tadamasa depicts striking figures in his 1951 – 1953 series. His characters come to life in expressive figures often with details such as shimmering mica and embossing and the embossing on the garments of Oshimodoshi are a fine example of his work.
Artist and carver and publisher seal are present on the woodblock print. It is also in good condition for its age with no tears and some foxing as seen in the images.
