Large Nishijima Woodblock Print Calm Wind

A highly detailed Original Woodblock Print by Katsuyuki Nishijima titled Calm Wind.  All the hallmarks of Nishijima’s skills are depicted in the many rooftops of Kyoto.  Hand Signed, Hand Numbered and Hand Titled By The Artist in Pencil in the Bottom Margin. It Also Shows the Artists Red Shima Seal in the Bottom Right Hand Corner.  A very striking work of art with crisp lines and a striking perspective of Kyoto rooftoops.

The print is numbered 59 from a Limited Edition of 100 and is in good condition with minor foxing on the corners of the lower margins.  Minor loss to the washi above the image on the top margin from removal of adhesive tape (see image).

Katsuyuki Nishijima 1945 –

Katsuyuki Nishijima was born in 1945 in Yamaguchi Province of Japan.  From 1964 to 1968 he studied the art of Woodblock Prints at the Mikumo publishing house in Kyoto.  At this time he also exhibited  his work with the Kyoto independent artists and in solo displays.  In 1972 he focused his immense talents on creating limited edition woodblock prints.  He applied traditional techniques of woodblock print making to buildings, landscapes and the surrounding countryside around Kyoto as his main inspiration.

Katsuyuki Nishijima’s woodblock prints are available in a variety of formats and sizes. His larger works of art are mostly limited editions of 500 and are hand signed and titled as well as numbered. He has also produced a number of open edition woodblocks since the mid 1970s.  These prints are are also hand signed and titled and unnumbered.
