A large and impressive late Edo period 1780-1860 Imari Charger from the Saga Prefecture 佐賀県 Saga-ken, north west of the island of Kyushu. The Charger is signed on the verso: Ken 佐賀県
The Charger is decorated with beautifully hand painted under glaze in Hichozan style featuring botanical mountain scenes and feathers representing a Phoenix. The plate is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Minor Kiln and firing marks are present which are a confirmation of authenticity. The signature mark on the verso in under glaze is Ken – 佐賀県 from the kanji characters of kenryu-nen-sei representing the Chinese Qianlong period (1736-1795). Shipping is included in the price for this item.
Approximate dimensions are: 2.585 kg weight and diameter 40.5 cm – height 5.7 cm.
