A large and very substantial 29 cm Meiji era Satsuma Incense Burner from Japan (1868 – 1912). With a crackle glaze finish and a large shi shi lion handpainted in gold on the finial of the lid.  Lotus leaves hand painted in gold feature around the neck of the koro.  Two panels feature Satsuma warriors and horses.  Alternating black panels feature gold icons of clouds, gourds and botanicals which are also featured on the lid and tripod feet.  The two substantial handles on the neck of the koro are also painted in ornate gold designs.  The koro ships with a wooden box (please see images).

The approximate dimensions are 29 cm height to top of finial on lid and 25 cm diameter.  The approximate weight is 2.650 kg without the box and 3.702 kg with the box.  In excellent condition with no chips or cracks and only minor signs of use and wear for its age.
