Ueno Tadamasu Woodblock Print Unawari Jealousy
Ueno Tadamasu (1904 – 1970) Tadamasu woodblock print Unawari also referred to as Jealousy from his woodblock print “Kabuki Juhachiban” which translates as “Eighteen Kabuki Plays”. In the dramatic “aragato” Tadamasa depicts striking figures in his 1951 – 1953 series published by Shokokusha. His characters come to life in expressive figures often with details such as shimmering mica and embossing and the embossing on the sleeves of Unawari are a fine example of his work.
Artist and carver and publisher (Shokokusha) seal are all present on the woodblock print. It is also in excellent condition for its age with some minor spotting and foxing as seen in the images.
