1900’s Japanese Women’s Ornamental Barrette.  Approximately 100 years old.  The material is BEKKO which is tortoiseshell or resin.

Kanzashi are hair ornaments used in traditional Japanese hairstyles.

Kanzashi came into wide use during the Edo period.  Hairstyles became larger and more complicated.  A larger number of ornaments were being used.  Artisans began to produce more finely crafted products.
