Teruhide Kato Woodblock Print Kinkaku-Ji Sekkey

Kato Woodblock Kinkaju-Ji Sekkey Also referred to as Kinkaku-Ji in Snow. Kinkaku-ji is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto which is a very popular tourist attraction.  Kato’s depiction shows the temple in winter surrounded by falling snow.

Kinkaku-ji was originally built by Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in 1378.  After his death, it became a temple for Zen Buddhists and re-named as Rokuon-ji.

In excellent condition and unused, never framed.  Hand printed on washi with ink bleed through to the reverse.  The red stamp of the Artist is on the lower right of the print.  Originally published by Unsodo in 1989 this is a later print from the original woodblocks.

ARTIST:  TERUHIDE KATO

Born in 1936 Kato studied at Kyoto Art College and enjoyed a successful career as a Kimono Designer in the 1960s and 1970s.

At the age of 50 Kato fulfilled his long held dream of becoming a traditional woodblock artist.  He gained fame for his contemporary woodblock shin-hanga prints of his native town Kyoto.
