Shiro Kasamatsu woodblock print depicting an evening scene along the mountain stream of Atera, a small mountain village near the Atera Creek, in the Kiso Valley region of Nagano. Originally published in 1958 this print is a later edition, hand printed from the original hand carved blocks. Hand printed on washi and in excellent and unused condition. The artist signature is Auto signed in the lower margin. Unsodo’s Publisher’s Seal and the Printer’s and Carver’s Seal which can also be seen in the Left Margin. The Kento Cut in the Bottom Right Corner is also proof that it is a genuine Unsodo Woodblock Print.

ARTIST: Shiro Kasamatsu (1898 – 1991)
Shiro Kasamatsu is one of the top shin-hanga woodblock print artists in Japan. Born in Tokyo, Shiro studied art under Kaburagi Kiyokata at a young age. He created his first woodblock prints for the publisher Watanabe Shozaburo in 1919 and continued to design shin-hanga prints for many years. Shiro became famous for his landscapes and scenes of traditional Japanese life and created over hundred woodblock designs for the publisher Unsodo. In the late 1950s he started creating NS carving and printing sosaku hanga also known as creative prints.
