Original Chikanobu Diptych Horse Racing at Shinobazu Pond
An original very rare diptych woodblock print of the ceremony of the horse racing at Shinobazu Pond in EDO (Tokyo) overseen by the Emperor and Empress and their attendants. Published in 1889 and estimated to be the work of Chikanobu it is a colourful depiction of traditional fireworks and icons of animals in the sky over the field as is customary for prints of this subject by Chikanobu. Traditional red and white pennants blowing in the wind behind the riders form a colourful backdrop.
Published in 1889. It is in good overall condition. Some wear to the margins of the print due to age. There are no margins on the bottom and right of both prints.
