A magnificent and impressive Antique Signed Bronze Koro from Japan’s Edo era and appearing to date from the late 1700s. The substantial body is sculptured in heavy relief in front and on the verso with a Horse and an upstanding Lion holding a key. At each end of the heavy body are solid bronze Elephant Head handles in round pillar shape. On top and around the neck are birds, cherry blossom branches & oriental flora with mythical symbols. A magic money mallet and other auspicious symbols are sculpted on the top finial of the open work lid. The Koro is signed with a stamp on the base.
A stunning and substantial Koro weighing in at 944 grams. Approximate dimensions are 14 cm wide and 11 cm high.
