Autumn Scene at Kinkaku Ji Temple is a beautifully detailed and colourful depiction by Teruhide Kato of the famous Golden Pavilion in Kyoto. Kinkaku-ji is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto and also a very popular tourist attraction. Originally built by Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in 1937 it became a temple for Zen Buddhists and re-named as Rokuon-ji after his death.
In new and unused condition and hand printed on Echizen washi. Ink bleed through to the reverse and the red stamp of Kato on the lower right. Originally published by Unsodo in 1989 this is a later print from the original woodblocks.

ARTIST: TERUHIDE KATO
Born in 1936 Kato studied at Kyoto Art College and enjoyed a successful career as a Kimono Designer in the 1960s and 1970s.
At the age of 50 Kato fulfilled his long held dream of becoming a traditional woodblock artist. He gained fame for his contemporary woodblock shin-hanga prints of his native town Kyoto.
