A stunning mid 20th century depiction of one of Torii Kiyonaga’s favourite subjects (Bijin-ja or beautiful women).  Kiyonaga produced this diptych work when he was thirty three and at the prime of his career as an ukiyo-e artist.

Kiyonaga saw in these girls his image of an ideal woman, who was as healthy and beautiful as the females in Greek sculpture.

Both prints and the original folders are in excellent condition and have never been used.   All the margins are also intact on both prints.

Dimensions of each Print: 40.5 cm Height 27 cm Width

The artist signature and publishers seal are present on each print. The prints also have the Adachi seal in ink on the reverse.

Shipping is via Australia Post and includes tracking and signature on delivery.

This beautiful reprint is from one of the most famous and respected publishers of the 20th century.  Tokyo publisher Adachi is one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century.  Adachi woodblocks are hand printed using traditional methods to the highest standards of quality with excellent color and fine detail.  Founded in 1925, Adachi chose the most evocative and celebrated subject matter of ukiyo-e and shin hanga for their prints.

Torii Kiyonaga 1752-1815 was a student of Torii Kiyomitsu and was adopted by the Torii family  where he continued the family business of print and bookmaking.  He was also active in painting.  Kiyonaga was a major printmaker of his time and his art covered all the popular subjects at the end of the 18th century.
