A woodblock from 1940s re-carved block print titled Yoro Fall in Mino Province. From Hiroshige’s series “Famous Views of the Sixty Odd Provinces” (Rokujuyshu meisho zue). A striking depiction of the 30 metre waterfall in the mountains of Yoro in Gifu Prefecture.  Striking hues of pink skies, indigo blue clouds and flattened and miniaturized rocks and trees.  The waterfall is skillfully printed with fine creases to imititate the effect of water and mica is sprinkled across the print.

Utagawa Hiroshige also known as  Andō Hiroshige  1797 to 1858.  Hiroshige was the last great master of the ukiyo-e tradition.

Hiroshige is famous for his landscapes as well as his depictions of birds and flowers.  He also created series such as the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido and the Sixty-nine Stations of the Kiso Kaido.
