Hiroshige was famous for his work as a landscape artist.  He also created works of art of bijinga (beauties).  This centre piece Woodblock print from a Triptych is a fine example of his portrayal of Japanese beauties.  A bijinga makes her way on the snow laden river bank as the falling snow covers her janome gasa (coarse oil paper umbrella). A puppy gambols in the snow beside her.  Depicted in the background is the Hanatogawa section of Asakusa along the Sumida river.  A man wearing a straw raincoat is poling his barge in midstream.  Published as a triptych each Woodblock print stands up as an independent work of art.  In excellent condition with good bleed through to the verso.

First published in the Edo Era 1800s this high quality genuine Woodblock print published mid 20th Century by the famous Takamizawa Publishing Company.

Approximate dimensions of sheet are 32.5 cm height and  23 cm width.  Approximate dimensions of print are 30 cm height and 20.5 cm width.

Utagawa Hiroshige  was also Andō Hiroshige  1797 to 1858.  Hiroshige is famous for his landscapes and series such as  “One Hundred View of Edo” and “Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido” .  He also created the series “Sixty-nine Stations of the Kiso Kaido” and he is also very well known for his depictions of birds and flowers and nature prints.
