An impressive Japanese Showa Era Lacquer Document Box (Suzuribako) featuring multiple layers of thick Kuronuri (Black Urushi Lacquer) with intricate and beautifully detailed Gold and Silver Lacquer Cranes in flight. The Crane (Tsuru) in Japan is considered a National Treasure and spiritually regarded as the Bird of Happiness. It is widely depicted in Japanese Art, Literature, and Mythology as a symbol of Good Luck and Longevity. This document box is hand carved and crafted from a single piece of Cypress or Rosewood and meticulously decorated with raised Gold and Silver Cranes in relief. This document box is in excellent to very good condition with no chips or cracks (please see images).
Approximate dimensions are 24 cm length and 18.2 cm width and the height is 3 cm.
