Antique Scroll God of Longevity on Crane

This beautiful and uplifting Antique Scroll carries a powerful traditional Spiritual message. The Scroll is eloquently Hand Painted on Washi and depicts Jurōjin the God of Longevity and Wisdom being happily flown by a Crane through a sky of puffy clouds. The Scroll is estimated to have been painted during the latter part of the Meiji Era 1890s to 1900s. Jurōjin is considered to be one of the Seven Gods of Fortune – Shichifukujin.

The signature and seal of the artist is on the bottom right of the artwork.

The upper crosspiece known as hyoumoku is karaki wood.  The lower crosspiece also known as jiku is a also karaki wood.  The honshi or artwork is also in good condition.

Silk brocade strips also frame the artwork in the centre of the scroll.

Hand made washi is also used for the scroll backing and is traditionally used in all antique scrolls.

The scroll is in good condition except for a tear on either side of the top of the scroll.  The image clearly shows the tears.  It also has some signs of foxing and toning due to its age.

Dimensions: approximately 1.8 metres in length 44 cm width.  Length of roller 50 cm.

This item will be carefully rolled and packed for shipping in a tube. Shipping is via Australia Post and includes tracking and signature on delivery.
