A beautifully hand excised late 19th Century Japanese Stencil. Made from mulberry bark, washed with persimmon rind and hand excised and smoke cured over many weeks.
The stencil hand excised with great precision and skill. It has intricate details of hand work by a skilled artisan. As part of the original process fine stitching is applied to some parts of the stencil in order to retain its shape. In very good overall condition with minor age related wear (please see images). Katagami stencils have been in use for centuries to apply designs to kimono silk. The same tradition is still in use today.
Shipping is via Australia Post and includes tracking and signature on delivery.
