Antique Japanese Temple Double Buddha

1980 to 1910 Double Buddha Butsudan or home altar with Tahō Nyorai 多宝如来 and Shaka Nyorai 釈迦 and the Odaimoku tower. A carved wood Buddhist home altar (butsudan) with gilt and black lacquer. In very good condition as shown with some signs of wear and age.

In the center is the Odaimoku tower inscribing “Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō”. The words Myōhō Renge Kyō refers to the Japanese title of the Lotus Sūtra.  The purpose of chanting daimoku is to reduce sufferings by eradicating negative karma along with reducing karmic punishments both from previous and present lifetimes, with the goal to attain perfect and complete awakening.
