RATING
An imposing and expressive Antique figure of the Chinese God of Longevity, Shou Lao. He is beautifully hand carved from a solid piece of what appears to be Rose or Cherry wood and is estimated to have been carved from around the end of the Kamakura Period 1340s through to the Nanbokuchō and Muromachi periods (1360s –1573). Shou Lao, being the Chinese God of Longevity is one of the three Daoist Gods of Fu (Good fortune) Lu (Prosperity) and Shou (Longevity)
Shou Lao has a prominent forehead and is carrying a ruyi scepter in his left hand. He has long flowing robes and has been inlaid with Silver Ruyi Head Clouds throughout (Please see Photos 4 – 10). One Black Coral eye is unfortunately missing however this would be an easy restoration if one were so inclined.
Approximate dimensions are 30 cm height, 7 cm width and 7 cm depth. Weight of figurine is 550 Grams. Weight with box 1.150 kg.
Shou Lao appears as being a very old antiquity with the Patina and other visible signs appropriate to his apparent age. There are age related cracks, chipping and wear (please see Photos).
Shou Lao will ship in a very old wooden box which shows substantial age related damage (Please see Photo 16).
Shipping is via Australia post and includes tracking and signature on delivery. If you wish to add insurance please contact us for a quotation.
